GAA Lotto

Ballyduff Lower GAA club held their recent lotto draw on Sunday February 16^th and the numbers drawn were 4, 8, 11 and 15. There was no winner of the jackpot but the three lucky dip winners of €50 each were Margaret Elliffe, Derek Laffan and James Walsh. The next draw will take place on Sunday March 2^nd and there will be a fantastic jackpot of €12,500 on offer.
Tickets cost just €2 each or three for €5 and can be purchases from all committee members, online or from the volunteer ticket sellers who will be at Centra in Kilmeaden on Saturday March 1^st. This lotto is a major fundraiser for the club, and they are very grateful to everyone for their support.

Easter Camp

If you are aged between 6 years and 13 years old and would like to learn to cook some beautiful, tasty dishes, you are invited to take part in an Easter Cooking Camp. The camp will take place from April 14^th to April 18^th in Ballyduff Community Centre from 10am to 1pm. The cost is €110 which includes all ingredients, equipment and recipes. Everything is cooked by the participants, and they will bring their finished dishes home to enjoy and share with the family. Ballyduff AFC

Ballyduff AFC have released some very important dates in their annual calendar. Their popular Easter camp will take place from April 14th to April 18^th and their Summer Camp will run from June 23^rd to June 27^th. These camps are very popular so check out the club’s Facebook page for booking details.

The club would like to say a very special thank you to Tom Barry from Larchville who generously donated a First Aid kit for the U15 Boys team. The club are very grateful for his support.

The club send their deepest condolences to their division 4 player and U11 girl’s coach Sean French on the recent death of his Dad Liam. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to club player Katie Murphy and the Waterford Women’s and Schoolgirls League Under 12 team who recently won the Munster Interleague Shield.

Our local community alert group will hold their AGM on Wednesday February 26^th at 8pm in Ballyduff Community Centre. This will include an informative talk about security from Deirdre O Neill, Crime Prevention Officer and Ronan Devaney from Secureview Security. All are welcome to attend and if anyone wants to join the Community Alert Text Scheme, please bring the yearly fee of €10 and your contact number.

LGFA Awards Scheme.

The Lidl Plus Rewards Scheme returned on February 17^th and every ladies gaelic football team is in with a chance to win €50,000. We all have the opportunity to help our local team by collecting the stamps in Lidl when we are doing our shopping. Each time we spend €50 we receive a stamp and when 4 stamps are collected your card can be submitted. The club you have selected needs to collect at least 50 stamps to be in with the chance of winning. Please select Ballyduff Lower LGFA and help the team to have a chance of winning.

RECENT DEATH.

We were all very saddened to hear of the death of Breda Leahy (nee Kirwan), Blacknock, Kilmeaden. Breda was a kind, gentle lady who loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved spending time in the garden and doing crosswords. She will be greatly missed by her son Paul, her daughters Elaine and Sarah, her grandchildren Paudie, Soairse and Niamh, sons-in-law Mark and Nazir, daughter-in-law Rachel, her sisters and extended family. May her gentle soul rest in peace and may her family find comfort in their memories of Breda.

SHREK COMES TO TOWN!

Ballyduff Youth Drama invite you along to their 2025 production of Shrek Saves Far Far Away. Each year this group treat us to a spectacular show of colour, music and song. This group of energetic and talented young people have been busy rehearsing and are now putting the final touches to the show. They will take to the stage in Ballyduff Community Centre from Thursday February 20^th to Saturday February 22^nd at 7.30pm each night. The cost of entry is just €10 and tickets can be booked by calling or texting Eleanor 087 4046904. This is always a night to look forward each year and watching our young boys and girls have so much fun while shining on stage is very uplifting. Book your ticket now and treat yourself to a night of smiles. We wish the very best of luck to all the cast and crew and of course the three superwomen Helen Millea, Eleanor Foley and Joan Cheasty who guide and nurture these children and give them the confidence and encouragement needed to give such wonderful performances.

WATERFORD SUIR VALLEY RAILWAY.

It is so nice to see so many people enjoying the bright weather as they take a stroll or a run or a cycle along the Greenway. The Whistlestop Café at the railway has many delicious treats on offer if you stop by for a nice friendly cuppa. You can sit and relax and enjoy a chat with friends or simply just watch the world go by. The café is open every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 3.30pm.

LITTER PICKERS

A big thank you and well done to our local group of litter pickers who do such a tremendous job keeping our area tidy and free of litter. It is up to every individual however to take their own rubbish home with them, there is absolutely no excuse for dumping litter. The Litter Picker Group are a bunch of volunteers who give their time and volunteer to pick up litter which is mostly thrown out of the windows of passing vehicles. It is very easy to have an empty bag in your car to take home your rubbish in.

Ballyduff AFC are encouraging everyone to get moving this January. You are invited to drop along to the club’s grounds on Tuesday’s at 7pm and join in their community walk on their walking track. This is a great way to get active and improve your mental and physical health in a safe way. You can also enjoy the company of others with a nice laugh and a chat.

CHURCH NEWS

The good news is that our Saturday evening mass has now returned at 7.30pm and our Sunday mass takes place on Sunday mornings at 10am. If you would like to book an anniversary mass for a loved one, masses will need to be shared. You can book a mass by contacting Ann in the sacristy or Linda Spillane on 087 9838392.

Our parish choir rehearse every Wednesday night in the church at 8pm and are always ready to welcome new members. They would be delighted to welcome new male and female members so if you are interested please drop along to rehearsal. The choir really enhance our masses with their beautiful selection of hymns every weekend.

NEW SIGNING.

Ballyduff AFC would like to send congratulations to former player Mia Lenihan who has joined the Waterford UTD women’s team for the upcoming season. Mia was always an outstanding player excelling in the Ballyduff AFC girls team and also earning an U16 cup medal with the boy’s team. The club wish Mia the very best of luck for the future and look forward to watching her play.

TRAINING DAY

The Football Academy of Ireland will host a special day of training on Tuesday February 18^th from 3pm to 6pm at Ballyduff AFC Grounds. This is aimed at boys and girls aged 6-14 years and costs just €20. No booking is needed and the course includes shooting, passing, dribbling, control, crossing and tackling. SEASON START

As our lady footballers get ready to begin their season, we send our very best wishes to local lady Fiona Crotty Laffan who will lead our minors out as their manager. Fiona has years of experience as a player and coach and will be a true inspiration to the girls. Fiona is an All Star with 5 All Ireland medals and numerous club and underage county All Irelands and has the experience and passion needed to encourage and support the girls. Fiona is delighted to have such a dedicated back room team working with her and has every confidence in her players. The team will kick off their campaign in March against Cork and we wish them the very best of luck.

BALLYDUFF AFC

Ballyduff AFC grounds is a very busy place with lots of activity happening on and off the pitch. The club would like to inform their members that a Re-Turn bin has now been installed at the clubhouse. You are urged to drop off any bottles and cans that have the Re-Turn logo. By doing this you are not only helping the environment, but you will also be helping your club. All the funds raised will be used for the club’s fundraising project.
The club have also installed a new boot cleaner which can be used after games to remove any mud from your boots before returning to the clubhouse or to your car.
The club are also hosting a fundraising scrap metal collection. You are invited to drop along to the club grounds any day between 10am and 9pm and drop off your old scrap metal, car parts, old washing machines, dishwasher or dryers, lawn mowers, bikes etc and all for free of charge. Please do not include any timber, plastic, glass, tyres, TV’s, paint tins etc. CCTV cameras are in operation in the club grounds.

BALLYDUFF GAA

As activities resume after the bad weather the club invite new members and volunteers to check out their facilities and see all they have to offer.
The Hurling Winter League has kicked the 2025 season off with over 50 children taking part in the two leagues this year. Well done to all who took part, showing some great hurling skills. On Wednesday the younger ages played for Week 2 and on Friday night the older lads battled it out.
A reminder that the club’s lotto draw has returned for 2025 with a fantastic jackpot of €12,500 on offer. This is the club’s major fundraiser during the year so please support if you can. Keep an eye in these notes for details of draw dates and where you can get your tickets.
